Whitburn Academy has been a Green Flag holder since 2008 and we recently submitted our application to renew this for the 3rd time. Topics covered over the last 2 years are Biodiversity, School Grounds and Litter. Through covering these topics we have achieved a significant amount of change in and around the school leading to an improved environment for pupils, staff and the wider community.
The Eco Committee is open to anyone who feels they could spare some of their time to contribute ideas and take forward our plans to benefit the whole school. Feel free to attend meetings which are held in Mr Bergarnie's room – Science Room 4 every Wednesday at lunch time.
We are currently the proud owners of the Green Flag Award and show that we are doing everything we can as a school community to sustain the world that we live in.
We have started to get the garden looking nice again and have removed the ivy from the music windows.
We have also promoted energy saving and most classrooms should now have a sticker reminding teachers and pupils to switch off lights and other power sources when they are not being used.
We are planning some of the following activities:
- Providing a home for nature with bee hotels and bird feeders
- Removing the weeds
- Planting the tree saplings in a suitable place
We have so much going, but we need you all to tell us what you want to be happening in and around the school. A full list of Eco-team members is on the Eco notice board so please feel free to let us know if you have any ideas or questions.
If you feel like getting involved in any of the activities, pop along to see Mr Bergarnie in Science Room 4!!
