The charities committee was set up in August 2014 as a voluntary group which students and staff could join to help raise awareness and funds for a variety of charities. The committee meets every Monday lunchtime to discuss and plan events. The group is led by 4 S6 students who lead the group and communicate with senior management.
The committee have been involved in two events so far: the McMillan Coffee Morning and Children in Need. Future events include: Help Week and Comic Relief to name a few. All new members are welcome please come and speak to Miss Richmond.
MacMillan Coffee Morning
On Friday 30th September, Whitburn Academy held a staff coffee morning and pupil bake sale. The event, held during the morning break, raised the fantastic total of £158.30 for MacMillan Cancer Support.
A big Thank You to all the Pupils and Staff who helped us raise this excellent amount of money for a worthwhile cause.
Children in Need Fundraiser
On 18th November, Whitburn Academy held a Dress Down day for Children in Need. Pupils and Staff paid £1 to wear non-uniform clothes for the day. At breaktime, there was a cake sale and face painting held in the Foyer, whilst in the Staff Room, there was a Bacon Rolls and a Raffle for staff. We raised £816.97 for Children In Need. Thanks to everyone who helped us to raise this excellent sum of money for a really good cause.
Help Week was held over the last 3 days of term prior to the Christmas Holidays. On Monday 19th December, we held our Christmas Fayre. Arranged and ran by the S4 Personal Development Classes, the fayre included many different stalls ranging from raffles and tombolas to cake stalls and facepainting.
Pupils from all year groups attended the fayre during the day and helped to raise money towards our chosen charities. Over the final 2 days of term, we held a non uniform day, where pupils and staff paid £1 to dress down. There were a variety of activities for the pupils to get involved in, including Movie Marathons, playing board games, X box tournaments, doing crafts and Sports in PE. The money raised is to be distrubuted between UNICEF, Jack's Den and the Foodbank.
