In 2013, Whitburn Academy invested in a custom built Hairdressing studio.
The school has recognised an increased interest in this career path and we have created an opportunity for pupils to build upon skills for work within Whitburn Academy.
The school have worked in partnership with Ambition Centred Training (ACT) who have created educational packages to introduce hairdressing
S3 Introductory course –Hairdressing Creativity (Level 4)
As an introduction to hairdressing 24 pupils will experience an eight week course where they will gain an SVQ module accreditation.
Pupils will be introduced to the Salon environment and practice hair design and styling and use of salon equipment.
Pupils will create a presentation board illustrating progress over the course.
The course include accreditation and submission of materials to Scottish Qualifications authority.
SVQ level 5 (New for 2014/15)
As part of the S5/6 Course choice options Whitburn Academy will be offering a new skills for work course that will take place over 2 afternoons as part of West Lothian School Campus.
Skills for Work Hairdressing Level 5
This course is at level 5 and consists of four 40 hour units
- Hairdressing: Working in the salon
- Hairdressing: Salon Skills
- Hairdressing: Creative trends
- Hairdressing: Introduction to colour
This course will be fantastic preparation for those pupils who would like to pursue a career in hairdressing or beauty at college.
