Spanish

Spanish is currently offered in S3 as an additional language to French in the last year of Broad General Education. It is a beginners’ course in view of a National 4 and National 5 course.

The course covers the following topics:

  • Bienvenidos (basic greetings, questions, numbers, dates)
  • Tu y yo (talking about yourself, your family and others)
  • El instituto (talking about school, routine, opinons on subjects and school policies)
  • En casa (talking about where you live, what you do at home, your ideal house)
  • Mi pueblo (describing your town and saying what you like/dislike about it, talking about your ideal place to live)
  • El tiempo libre (talking about what you do in your spare time, opinions about hobbies)

Throughout the year a number of strategies are used to assess progress including:

  • Posters
  • Essays
  • Talks
  • Conversations
  • Reading assessments
  • Listening assessments
  • All pupils should spend 15 minutes twice a week learning new vocabulary from the sheets provided for every unit. Replacement sheets can be downloaded from the school web-site.
  • In addition, there will be a mixture of formal and informal tasks set approx. every 2 weeks. These will include :

  2. Research
  3. Practice in writing.
  4. Preparation for assessments
