The Vine Trust Team have continued to raise funds this term for our trip to Peru in June 2018. The S1-S2 Girls Rugby team participated in the final SSP event of the year against schools from across West Lothian on 19th May. On 8th May,  two of our S6 pupils, Emma Archondakis and Rebecca Millar, took part in the preliminary round of the ESU Public Speaking Competition at Mary Erskine School in Edinburgh. On 17th March, our under 13's 7 a side football team took part in the Cash Back 7 a side football tournament that took place at St Augustine High School in Edinburgh. Well Done to S6 pupil, Ross Neally, who took part in the UK school games, which were held at Loughborough University in England from 1st - 4th September.   Ross swam in the 100 metre breaststroke and 100m breaststroke races for the South and East of Scotland team, managing to complete his swim in 1 minute, 9.7 seconds. Scott Gilchrist (S3) represented Whitburn Academy when playing in the West Lothian School's Wind Ensemble recently at the final of the Scottish Concert Band Festival in Perth. 5K swim for Sports Relief
On Saturday 19th March, Rebecca-Jane, one of our S5 pupils, completed a 5K swim (200 lengths), at one of the official Sport Relief Events. The swim was completed in a very good time of 2hrs and 5 minutes. Rebecca-Jane applied for the place and obtained sponsorship through her own initiative and has managed to raise an amazing £265 through sponsorship money raised so far. On Tuesday 8th March, a group of 13 S1 pupils visited the Museum on the Mound in Edinburgh to learn about money. They attended a variety of workshops, including the "Heads and Tails” activity where they were given the chance to learn how coins were made in the olden days, using coin dies and hammers. Cupcake Club
We have had great fun this 1st month of cupcake club in S2. Pupils have made their own cupcakes, frozen them for later use and then spent two weeks trying out different decoration techniques. These have included moulding shapes, using commercial cutters and piping which are all useful skills to take into the practical cake craft course if chosen in S5/6. On Friday 27th November, our S3-S4 and S5-S6 handballers took part in and finishing 3rd in the National Schools Handball Championships. On Friday 25th September, Whitburn Academy held a MacMillan Coffee Morning to raise funds for MacMillan Cancer Support. On Thursday 24th September, two of our S5 pupils, had the fantastic opportunity to meet the First Minister at the Scottish Parliament yesterday. Tanzania 2016 Fundraising Update
Fundraising for the Vine Trust trip to Tanzania in 2016, which a group of our S5 and S6 pupils will be taking part in, continued over the Summer Holidays. Mrs Rhind's running club,  Jog Scotland Westwoods, held a charity run and barbecue raising a fantastic £150 towards our funds.   Meanwhile Amanda Henderson raised £850 by organising a pie, peas and bingo evening.
