Stellar Award Nomination
S6 Pupil, Nathan Pearson has been nominated for a Stellar Award at this year's prestigious event. He was selected as a nominee in the Individual Achievement category due to his hard work and commitment to Media in school and out of school. Nathan has shown tremendous dedication to developing his skills as a film-maker this year. He showed great leadership in a group project in National 5 Media, bringing his own equipment and acting as director and actor in the process. Moreover, Nathan took it upon himself to apply for the BFI Film Academy course in Edinburgh. This is a prestigious course that takes up every weekend between October and January, and has very limited places. It allows young people to work with professionals in the industry to produce high-quality short films. Nathan spent lots of time working on his application and this was successful. Nathan then committed every weekend to the course and the improvement in his film-making skills was evident. This gave him the confidence to lead less experienced pupils in his film-making group in Media. Finally, Nathan showed further commitment to the film-making industry by participating in a film that was shot in school. ‘Scanners’ is a production by the film company Albino Mosquito who sought to film in Whitburn Academy as the director was an ex-pupil. Nathan put himself forward for auditions and was successful again, therefore committing to a further 3 days of filming during the stressful exam period. All of the commitment and dedication he has shown are great qualities, and his confidence has grown significantly. Nathan’s skills have developed not just as technical film-making skills but leadership and communication skills. It is for these numerous reasons that Nathan has achieved his nomination for a Stellar Award - an excellent achievement for our budding young film-maker!
