Poppy Appeal and Remembrance
During the week beginning 9th November, a group of 6 senior pupils, have been visiting Tutor Classes to sell poppies. The total amount raised over the week has still to be confirmed, however the pupils and staff of Whitburn Academy have been generous in their giving towards the fantastic work done by the Scottish Poppy Appeal.
During House assemblies held during the past week, 3 pupils from S4/S5 have been presenting to their peers about the meaning of Remembrance Day, the contribution to World War One made by the people of Whitburn and the surrounding area and the work of the Erskine Hospital in Edinburgh. At the end of each assembly, the names of the 63 soldiers from Whitburn who died during the First World War, were displayed on the projector screen, whilst a minute's silence in memory of everyone from Whitburn and the Surrounding area who have died in all conflicts was held. The minute's silence held at the end of each of the three assemblies was impeccably observed.
