West Lothian Speaks!
On Wednesday 27th January, 8 S2 pupils travelled to St Margaret's Academy for the annual West Lothian Speaks! competition. Our speakers were Elena and Connor, who had prepared speeches and arguments for the topic 'This House would ban the sale of violent video games'. They fought off fierce competition from 7 other teams and got through to the final debate.
In the final debate, the teams were given 40 minutes to prepare for the topic ‘This house believes that the UK should not limit the amount of Syrian refugee children that are accepted into the country’. Connor and Elena opposed the motion and put forward strong arguments. They did a fantastic job in the small amount of time they had and their speeches were impressive. Unfortunately they just missed out on the winning trophy to St Margaret’s Academy. Regardless of this the Debating Club had an excellent day watching and taking part in some very challenging debates.
