S2 and S3 STEM Careers Hive 2016.
On Friday 4th March, 20 S2 and S3 pupils attended the first ever Careers Hive organised by the Edinburgh International Science Festival.
The event took place in the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. It focussed on the challenges we face in the future, how we might be able to solve them and the science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) careers which can help to build a better world.
The Careers Hive was split in to three 1-hour experiences. First the Experience Guide for the day took the pupils to a Life Stories talk where they heard a few inspiring motivational talks by exciting professionals from the world of STEM.
The Find your Future workshop got the students thinking about their strengths, what different jobs they might be suited to and gave them experience of working together to solve a product design challenge.
Finally the Careers Hive exhibition is a hands-on activity centre where Careers Hive staff and volunteers from STEM companies engaged the students with a host of gadgets, science equipment and fun activities. The Think Tank hosted a careers speed dating activity in the centre of the Museum.
Overall the pupils had a great time and got a lot of useful knowledge and advise as they progress their Science careers in S3 and S4 next year.
