Mr Adair's Easter Message
It is the last week of the current term and Whitburn Academy is a hive of activity.
As our young people in S4, S5 and S6 ready themselves for the end of their courses and the pending examinations season, there is a nervous energy running through the school. The Music practical exams which have been taking place all this week are typical of the mood – a mixture of anxiety, hope, determination, and great amounts of dedication, enthusiasm and creativity.
I want to wish every student in S4, 5 and 6 in particular the best of luck and every success as we enter that exam period, and then endure the waiting game until the results arrive in early August. At Whitburn Academy we are already very proud of you and know that you will study hard, do your best and achieve your targets.
In other matters, I have been busy this morning judging a Tutor Group ‘Easter Doors’ competition at the Academy. I have had to make a very difficult decision, after seeing dozens of wonderful team entries across the entire school, from all year groups. You can see the evidence on our website and newsletter. Also this morning I received news that a number of Whitburn Academy pupils will be taking part in a BBC Young Commentator of the Year competition at the end of April – a very exciting opportunity for our students and one which could lead to a lifelong career opportunity in the media. There are many other great stories to tell from the past few months – please take a few minutes to browse our Newsletter and Website and to see how our fantastic young people are achieving and attaining, in and out of school.
The Spring Newsletter will give you a flavour of life at Whitburn Academy and I hope you enjoy reading it. This website, www.whitburnacademy.org , also has a range of current stories (most of which appear in the pages of the Newsletter), including sporting successes, our Sports Relief day, mock interview sessions, the STEM Careers Hive, War Memorial banners, S1 Video Projects and a lot more.
My appreciation goes to Mr Hawthorn for all the work he has put into the current edition of our Newsletter and also for ensuring that our school website is always kept right up to date. If you have any questions or comments about the Newsletter, the Website, the events mentioned, or about the school generally, please send us an email via the address provided on the home page.
In the meantime, have a wonderful Easter and I look forward to speaking with you again before the current school session ends at the end of June.
